I was born in Venezuela to a mix of Jewish Hungarians, Italians, Venezuelans, communists, and marine biologists. My young mind was bombarded by Jacques Cousteau books, history lectures, and Mediterranean recipes.

From the communists, I learned that ideas—even bad ones—can endure if they're pursued with passion. Cousteau taught me that money can make anything, even clownfish and anemones, interesting. And from the Italians, I learned that none of the above matters if you have enough food and wine.

Nevertheless, I live in the present. I have no money, and my cholesterol levels are fine.
